When photographing another photographer whose work you truly admire, there’s bound to be a bit of nerves in the build up to their session. Last year I photographed Taylor and her family and I knew I really wanted to deliver stunning, authentic imagery again for the second year in a row.
We decided to use an old pickup on her families property and to incorporate something fun and tactile for the kids like paper airplanes. If you’re ever in doubt of using “props” for your own family’s session, don’t be! Simple props that feel true to your family can really help us to hone in on connection and personality in new ways – especially for repeat families who want to switch things up from year to year.
This midwest spring day did not disappoint with its blue skies and direct sunlight (we scheduled the session for 4pm that day). And then we honestly just let the kids be kids and had so. much. fun.
